Fakahatchee Grass, aka Florida Gama grass, is a Florida native ornamental grass that is gaining popularity amongst gardeners and can be used in a variety of locations. It's easy-to-grow and virtually pest-free. This stunning green grass produces fountain-like clumps that will reach 5 to 6 feet in height when mature. The dwarf relative matures at 2 – 3 feet. The leaves have small, sharp teeth along their edges. The flowers can be white, pink, yellow, or rust-colored, which appears in late spring on stout spikes that rise above the leaves.

Fakahatchee Grass is naturally found in Florida's pine woods, coastal uplands, along river banks, swamps, and even along its highways, through Florida. It's easy to grow, and easy to propagate, and will make an excellent addition to your landscape and add texture to any yard.

This grass prefers to grow in full sun to partial shade. It grows best in fertile soils but will tolerate most soil as long as it's moist.

Both Fakahatchee grass and the dwarf relative can be grown in zones 8 to 11.
