Frequently overlooked by many Florida residents, Walter’s Viburnum a Florida native exhibits superior features for use in a variety of landscape projects. Walter's Viburnum, aka Viburnum obovatum is a large shrub or small tree that is densely twiggy and upright ascending. Its native dark green leaves are glossy and leathery, and emit an enchanting fragrance when crushed.

At maturity, this large shrub or small tree reaches 10-12 feet in height and spreads 6-10 feet. In the landscape Walter’s Viburnum stays uniform in its growth habit and does not get "leggy" as many of the Viburnum species, requiring less pruning and maintenance. Dwarf forms are also available.

As a shrub, Walter’s Viburnum is very compact and is an excellent choice for hedging. It tolerates hard pruning and could be made into topiary or formal hedges.

Plant in shade or full sun. Walter’s viburnum blooms more profusely in full sun but still grows very well in part shade.
