The Yucca plant is an extremely drought-tolerant evergreen perennial that is widely popular and makes a great addition to any landscape. Their foliage grows in rosette form either at ground level or on stalks, trunks, or branches. This native plant produce cluster of creamy white flowers blooms held above green or variegated strap-shaped leaves. During mid to late summer, some yucca growing as tall as 10 feet, and leaves reach about 2 ½ feet.

Smaller varieties can be 2 to 4 feet tall and wide, and larger tree types can reach 30 feet tall and spread to 25 feet wide.

Many have foliage that is razor-sharp and spine-tipped, earning them familiar names of Spanish bayonet and Spanish dagger.

Yuccas are known for a very broad variety of textures and forms. These desert-thriving plants grow well with minimal attention, making them a wonderful choice for beginning gardeners, as well as an easy eye-catcher.

Yucca thrives in soil that drains well and should receive full sun to part sun. A lack of sunlight can cause spindly foliage growth and decrease flowering.

Yucca plants are quite drought tolerant due to their thick waxy leaves so they don't require much water after establishment.

Yucca vs. yuca:

Yuccas are no relation to Lucas. They are quite often confused. Yuca is a tropical vegetable that has other common names that you may recognize, such as cassava, manioc, and tapioca.

The roots of the yucca plant are not edible.
