The Zamioculcas zamiifolia aka ZZ plant has been around for centuries. It is a tropical perennial native to Eastern Africa that has become popular worldwide in recent years due to its endurance of a vast range of conditions. The ZZ plant grows smooth, naturally waxy leaves that range from bright lime in their youth to emerald green in their maturity. Individual leaflets are typically one to three inches long. They spring from thick, slightly bulbous stalks, which grow from large, water-storing rhizomes hidden underneath the soil. The ZZ is a highly dependable houseplant because it can endure low light and has low water requirements.

ZZ usually grows slowly to a height and width of two to three feet.

ZZ plant also is an air purifier and in a NASA study, researchers found it is specifically adept at removing chemical pollution from the air.

Thrives in medium to low indirect light. Can tolerate bright indirect light. Not suited for intense, direct sun.

Water every 2-3 weeks, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.
