The Florida Thatch Palm is a slow grower, native to the Florida Keys and commonly found along coastal highways in the southernmost areas of South Florida, however, they can also make great landscape or container specimens.

Florida thatch palm has a slender trunk, ultimate height of about 10-20 feet; maximum height of up to 30' which takes decades to achieve. Topped with a cluster of 12-20 deep green palmate leaves, fan-shaped fronds about 2-3 feet in diameter, segments 2.5’ long, 2” wide.

Full sun to partial shade is fine, very well-drained, preferably calcareous soil, that is relatively moist in the growing season and drier in winter. Once established, this palm exhibits fair cold tolerance and is quite resilient to tropical storm winds.

Like many Florida native palms, this one is drought-tolerant once it's established, as well as being very salt-tolerant...this is definitely another plus for beach-side locations.

It is great for growing in USDA Zones 10a (30 to 35 F) to 11 (above 40 F).
