Crown of Thorns
Despite its name, the crown of thorns is a beautiful evergreen succulent plant that produces colorful bracts of red, pink or orange colors around the mini flowers like the poinsettia, continuously.
This shrub, native to Madagascar, is a thorny sprawling plant that can grow to 3 feet with a 3 feet spread. The shrub is also known as the Christ Plant or Christ Thorn since many believe it was used to make the Crown of Thorns worn by Jesus at his crucifixion.
Heat tolerant and drought resistant, the crown of thorns plant is a real gem. Crown Of Thorns is one of the few succulents with real leaves that are thick, fleshy, and tear-shaped. The leaves appear on stems that are armed with sharp, inch-long spines.
Planted correctly, the plant offers a mass of beautiful blossoms all year round in southern Florida. Crown Of Thorns is great as an outdoor shrub in warm climates, as it is extremely tolerant of high temperatures.
The shrub prefers full sun but can handle partial shade.
